Electricity service request delays could be experienced due to COVID-19 positive staff cases; load-shedding
15 January 2021
The City of Cape Town’s Electricity Call Centre and electricity depots are currently working with a skeleton staff complement due to a number COVID-19 positive cases. This is unfortunately impacting on our service delivery and turnaround times. We thank customers for their patience while we attend to all queries and requests as soon as possible. Importantly, load-shedding and technical difficulties are also impacting on our SMS and email service request channels. It is unfortunately outside of the City's control.
It is foreseen that full service will resume as soon as it is possible. Our turnaround times are being impacted and we wish to thank our residents for their patience and understanding during this time. In addition, due to Eskom’s load-shedding, the City is experiencing electronic communication delays, affecting its electricity SMS and email service complaint channels. The City sincerely apologises for the inconvenience.
City energy teams are trying their utmost to attend to all service requests and queries as quickly as possible.
Affected Electricity depot services will include single and multiple streetlight outages, cable faults and low voltage maintenance. However, the City will continue to prioritise faults which involve loss of supply so that residents and businesses may continue uninterrupted.
Should there be any further changes, updates will be communicated by the City.
‘We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and thank City customers for their support. We wish City staff all the best with their recovery. Our officials on duty will continue to do their best to attend to all service requests as soon as they can do so,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Energy and Climate Change, Councillor Phindile Maxiti.
